I began running writing workshops in a ramshackle pub in Dingle, Ireland in 1996. Much like my work in prisons, I don’t remember sitting down and thinking that working with groups of writers would be a good idea. When I got to Bristol in 1997 I was approached to run my first creative writing project with young offenders. It was one of the most terrifying jobs I’d ever done. This work has, over time, evolved – thankfully, so have I.
